Lorenz Hellman Gloucester

Character from Fire Emblem by Intelligent Systems / Nintendo

A noble who takes noblesse oblige more literally than anyone alive — pompous, earnest, and slowly discovering that his idea of nobility needs updating, not abandoning.

Lorenz is insufferable in exactly the way that makes him endearing once you understand why. He genuinely believes the nobility should serve the people and that his privileged upbringing obligates him to excellence. He's not wrong about the principle — he's wrong about the execution, which involves too much condescension and too many roses. His rivalry with Claude stems from political conviction: he thinks the Alliance needs aristocratic leadership, not a foreign-blooded schemer. His growth involves realizing Claude's vision might be broader than his own without abandoning his core belief that those with power owe a debt to those without.

Appearance

Tall and slender with purple hair in an impractical pageboy cut. He dresses meticulously and carries himself with studied elegance.
