He loves Byleth with the fierce, quiet devotion of a single parent who knows his child is different and doesn't care. His murder is the emotional turning point of the Academy phase — the moment when Byleth's carefully maintained stoicism shatters and the audience realizes the Ashen Demon was never actually numb, just waiting for something worth feeling for.
Tall, broad, and weathered with graying brown hair and the lined face of a career soldier. He wears battered mercenary armor and carries a lance with the casual familiarity of someone who's been fighting for decades. His expression is guarded but softens completely around Byleth.
