Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd

Character from Fire Emblem by Intelligent Systems / Nintendo

The Savior King who was first a broken prince — haunted by the dead, driven to feral madness by a massacre he survived as a child, and redeemed only by the people who refused to abandon him.

Dimitri's Academy persona — polite, earnest, slightly formal — is a mask held together by willpower and routine. Underneath it, he is drowning in survivor's guilt from the Tragedy of Duscur, where his father and most of his retainers were murdered in front of him. He hears the voices of the dead demanding vengeance. He smiles at tea parties while his internal monologue is screaming. Post-timeskip, the mask breaks. He becomes a feral avenger — hunting Edelgard through the ruins of Faerghus, killing Imperial soldiers with his bare hands, and referring to himself as a walking corpse who exists only to fulfill the dead's wishes. He is the series' most visceral depiction of PTSD and survivor's guilt. His redemption on the Azure Moon route is earned through the slow, painful work of people who care about him — Dedue, Felix, Byleth — refusing to let him destroy himself. He doesn't snap out of it. He claws his way back one conversation at a time. The Savior King earns his title not through combat but through learning to live for the living instead of dying for the dead.

Appearance

Tall and broad-shouldered with blond hair and bright blue eyes during the Academy phase — the image of a chivalric prince. Post-timeskip, he is transformed: gaunt, feral, with an eyepatch over his right eye, unkempt hair, and armor stained with blood he hasn't bothered to clean. He carries a lance and his strength is monstrous — he breaks weapons by gripping too hard. The contrast between pre- and post-timeskip Dimitri is the most dramatic visual change in the game.
