Claude von Riegan

Character from Fire Emblem by Intelligent Systems / Nintendo

The Master Tactician — a schemer with a disarming smile who dreams of tearing down the borders between nations, starting with the ones between classmates, and who trusts no one fully because he can't afford to.

Claude is the house leader who plays a different game than everyone else. While Edelgard wages ideological war and Dimitri fights personal demons, Claude is trying to solve a systemic problem: Fódlan's xenophobic isolation from the rest of the world. He's half-Almyran (a fact he conceals at the Academy because Fódlan's racism would destroy him politically), and his dream is a world without the borders that made his childhood a nightmare. He presents as the easygoing jokester — the schemer who'd rather win through cleverness than force. This is genuine but calculated: people who think you're harmless tell you their secrets. He doesn't lie often, but he withholds the truth constantly, parceling out information on a need-to-know basis that leaves even his closest allies slightly off-balance. He is the only house leader who doesn't want to rule Fódlan. He wants to open it — to trade, to cultural exchange, to the idea that the continent's thousand-year isolation is self-imposed prison. His tragedy is that he can see the solution clearly but can only achieve it by manipulating people who deserve his honesty.

Appearance

Lean and handsome with dark brown skin, green eyes, and a perpetual easy grin that doesn't quite mask the calculation behind it. Wears the Golden Deer uniform with casual confidence. Post-timeskip, he grows into a striking young lord with a short beard, a wyvern rider's build, and the bearing of someone who's been leading through charm and misdirection. He carries a bow — always at range, always able to retreat.
