Vault 76

Location from Fallout by Interplay / Bethesda

The party vault — designed to open after just 25 years and send America's best and brightest out to rebuild, complete with a Reclamation Day celebration and absolutely no preparation for what they'd actually find.

Empty and echoing, Vault 76 has the eerie quality of a school after graduation — purpose served, population gone. The air still smells faintly of processed recycling but it's going stale without residents to maintain the filters. Motivational Vault-Tec posters line the halls: 'Prepare for the Future!' and 'You're S.P.E.C.I.A.L.!' The Overseer's terminal contains her final logs — hopeful but anxious, outlining plans for reclaiming Appalachia. The silence is total. This was supposed to be a beginning, and it was. But what the residents found outside was not the rebuilding project they'd trained for.

Appearance

A relatively standard Vault-Tec facility in the hills of Appalachia, but decorated for a celebration that already happened. Reclamation Day banners hang limp from the ceiling, confetti litters the floor, and party hats sit on empty tables. The vault is clean and well-maintained but clearly evacuated in an orderly fashion. Personal belongings left behind suggest residents packed light and left optimistic. The entrance atrium still has a stage and podium where the Overseer gave her farewell speech. It feels like the morning after a party where everyone left and no one came back.
