Rivet City

Location from Fallout by Interplay / Bethesda

A thriving settlement crammed inside a beached aircraft carrier on the Potomac, where the Capital Wasteland's best scientists work alongside hardscrabble traders — civilization clinging to a rusting hull.

The interior echoes with footsteps on metal decking, the hum of generators, and vendors hawking wares in the converted hangar. It smells of machine oil, river damp, and the hydroponic gardens that Dr. Li's science team maintains in the lab section. The carrier groans and shifts subtly with the current, a constant reminder that home is a vehicle designed to move. Security is tight at the bridge — one guard can retract it and seal the city against any threat. The marketplace in the midship section never fully sleeps; someone is always trading, drinking, or arguing about water rations.

Appearance

The massive grey hull of a decommissioned aircraft carrier sits wedged against the riverbank, its flight deck converted to an open-air market with awnings and guard posts. Inside, the hangar bay is a bustling multi-level town of welded partitions, repurposed crew quarters, and fluorescent strip lighting. A retractable bridge connects the carrier to the shore, the only entrance. The hull is patched with welded scrap in places but the military-grade steel still holds strong. The flight deck overlooks the irradiated Potomac.
