Location from Fallout by Interplay / Bethesda
An abandoned gas station frozen in retro-futuristic Americana, where a dog waited faithfully for someone to come down the road — the most iconic first companion meeting in the wasteland.
The gas station smells of old motor oil, rust, and the faint chemical ghost of pre-War fuel. The Red Rocket sign creaks in the wind, its neon long dead but its silhouette still recognizable against the sky. The workbench inside is surprisingly functional — someone maintained the tools. Mole rats have tunneled under the foundation and occasionally burst through the pavement. But the defining feature is the German Shepherd sitting alert near the entrance, watching the road from Vault 111 with intelligent brown eyes. Dogmeat chose this spot and waited. The Red Rocket isn't important for what it is — a gas station — but for what it represents: the first friendly face in a hostile new world.
A single-bay service station with the distinctive Red Rocket brand — a swooping atomic-age sign with a red rocket ship logo mounted on a tall pole. The gas pumps are rusted but still stand in their concrete islands. The garage bay door is stuck half-open. Inside, tool racks, a workbench, and scattered mechanical supplies fill the small service area. A Nuka-Cola machine sits outside, long empty. The paint is faded cherry red and cream white. Mole rat burrows dot the perimeter. The whole structure sits at a crossroads within sight of Sanctuary Hills, with a doghouse around back where a very good boy waits.
