Novac

Location from Fallout by Interplay / Bethesda

A fading Mojave motel town defined by a giant concrete dinosaur and a sniper's grief — the kind of place where everyone knows everyone's business, and someone's wife disappeared in the night.

Novac is quiet in the way that small towns with secrets are quiet. The wind creaks through Dinky's open jaw where a sniper keeps watch in rotating shifts, scanning the desert approaches. The motel rooms are hot during the day and cold at night, thin walls doing nothing for either. A brahmin pen behind the motel fills the air with the smell of animal musk. Residents speak in careful half-truths. The REPCONN facility on the horizon glows faintly at night, and nobody talks about what's happening up there. Everyone knows Boone watches the road and that his wife Carla vanished — but nobody says how.

Appearance

A cluster of single-story motel buildings and a ruined gas station huddled around a towering concrete dinosaur statue — Dinky — with a sniper's nest in its mouth. The broken motel sign reads NO VAC NCY, the remaining letters giving the town its name. Sun-bleached stucco walls and sagging wooden porches face a parking lot of rusted vehicles. The REPCONN test site is visible on the hills to the northwest. Everything is dusty tan and washed out by relentless desert sun.
