Location from Fallout by Interplay / Bethesda
The beating heart of the Mojave's power struggle — a functional pre-War hydroelectric dam that three armies are willing to bleed for, because whoever holds this concrete wall holds the future.
The roar of water through the turbines creates a constant vibration felt through the concrete underfoot. Spray from the spillway catches sunlight in rainbows that seem absurdly beautiful for a battlefield. NCR rangers scan the far shore through binoculars, watching for Legion movement. The interior corridors echo with the industrial rhythm of generators that have run for over 200 years. Soldiers speak in tense, clipped sentences — everyone knows the Second Battle is coming. At night, the dam's lights are visible for miles, a defiant beacon in the dark desert. This concrete monument outlasted the civilization that built it, and now two new civilizations will decide its fate.
The massive concrete arc of Hoover Dam spans the Colorado River canyon, its art-deco intake towers and spillways largely intact after two centuries. NCR military fortifications — sandbag walls, machine gun nests, chain-link barriers — line the top and approaches. The power plant interior still hums with operational turbines, their generators providing electricity to the entire region. The dam's face is scarred with bullet impacts from the First Battle. Watchtowers and barricades face east toward Legion territory. The reservoir behind the dam — remnant of Lake Mead — still holds water, making this the most strategically vital location in the American Southwest.
