Freeside

Location from Fallout by Interplay / Bethesda

The desperate slum pressed against the Strip's walls, where those who can't afford the entrance fee scrape by under the Kings' protection — close enough to taste the neon, too poor to walk through the gate.

The sounds of Freeside are arguments, breaking glass, and the distant bass thrum of Strip music bleeding over the walls. It smells of unwashed bodies, cooking fires, and the chemical sweetness of Dixon's jet supply. Addicts slump in doorways while thugs size up anyone who looks like they have caps. The Kings maintain a rough order — they protect locals but visitors are fair game. The Followers' fort is an island of compassion, Arcade Gannon and others providing free medical care to people the rest of the Mojave has forgotten. Every resident here has a story about almost making it inside the Strip.

Appearance

Crumbling pre-War storefronts and boarded-up casinos line streets littered with debris and sleeping drifters. Makeshift barricades of burned-out cars and shopping carts mark gang territory. The Kings' School of Impersonation occupies an old theater with a flickering Elvis sign. The Followers of the Apocalypse operate from the crumbling Old Mormon Fort, its stone walls a rare solid structure. The Strip's gate looms at one end, its neon glow a constant taunt. Trash fires provide warmth and light at night.
