Portable nuclear power cell the size of a thermos — powers everything from power armor to gatling lasers, and possession of one makes you a target for everyone who needs one.

The bottleneck resource of the wasteland. Power armor without a fusion core is a statue. A gatling laser without one is a club. Whoever controls the fusion core supply controls who gets to field heavy weapons and heavy armor. They drain under use, they're impossible to manufacture post-War, and every military installation that might still have them has been picked over a dozen times.

Appearance

Cylindrical metallic canister with a yellow-green glow emanating from coolant channels along its housing. Heavy for its size. Heat-dissipation fins ring the midsection. The core hums faintly when charged, with a warning-yellow radiation trefoil stamped on the casing.

What They Know

• Powers T-45 through X-01 power armor variants — a drained core leaves the suit immobile
• Brotherhood of Steel hoards fusion cores as strategic resources and will confiscate them from civilians
• Also powers gatling laser weapons, which drain cores significantly faster than power armor
• Cannot be recharged or manufactured with post-War technology — every core used is one fewer in the world
