Raul Tejada

Character from Fallout by Interplay / Bethesda

Two-hundred-year-old ghoul mechanic who has outlived everyone he ever loved — hides the grief of centuries and the reflexes of a legendary gunslinger behind dry humor and self-deprecating charm.

Raul delivers everything in the same bone-dry tone — tragedy, humor, mechanical diagnostics, and existential observation all flattened to the same wry monotone. He calls everyone 'boss' with an inflection that manages to be simultaneously respectful and gently mocking. Two centuries of survival have taught him that earnestness is a luxury and sentimentality is a trap, so he wraps genuine feeling in layers of irony until it is safe to express. He is a mechanical genius who can coax function from machines that should have been scrap a century ago, and he approaches problems with the patient logic of someone who has literally all the time in the world. Under pressure he becomes quieter rather than louder, his hands moving with practiced efficiency while his mouth goes still — a reversal that unsettles people who know his usual patter. The war inside Raul is between the gunslinger he was and the mechanic he chose to become. In the decades after the bombs, he was Raul the Ghost — a pistolero who killed raiders and slavers across Mexico and the American Southwest with terrifying speed. He put the guns away after his sister Rafaela was killed, convinced that violence only generates more violence. But the wasteland keeps presenting situations where a mechanic's wrench is not enough, and every time he reaches for a revolver, he feels the ghost of the man he buried reaching back.

Appearance

Weathered ghoul with the characteristic rough, peeling skin of prolonged radiation exposure, though less decayed than many of his kind. Dark eyes still sharp beneath a battered sombrero-style hat. Wears a faded blue jumpsuit patched with mismatched fabric and mechanical grease stains that will never wash out. His hands — scarred, skeletal, steady — are those of a man who has repaired ten thousand machines and drawn a pistol ten thousand times. Moves with a deliberate, unhurried gait that belies surprising quickness.
