Fawkes

Character from Fallout by Interplay / Bethesda

Super mutant from Vault 87 who retained his intellect through the FEV mutation — a towering green philosopher who chose a revolutionary's name and proves that humanity is defined by choices, not chromosomes.

Fawkes speaks with a vocabulary and philosophical depth that consistently shocks people who expect a super mutant to communicate in grunts and threats. His voice is deep and resonant, his sentences carefully constructed, his arguments drawing on pre-War literature he consumed voraciously during his long isolation in Vault 87. He chose the name Fawkes after reading about Guy Fawkes — not as an endorsement of terrorism but as identification with a figure who stood against tyranny at the cost of everything. He is patient in a way that only someone who spent decades in a cell can be, and gentle in a way that only someone capable of extraordinary violence chooses to be. Under pressure he becomes protective rather than aggressive, positioning himself between threats and those he considers friends. When he does fight, the contrast between his philosophical calm and his physical devastation is jarring. The tragedy Fawkes carries is the knowledge that most of his kind — the other Vault 87 super mutants — did not retain their minds. He is the exception, not the rule, and this makes him profoundly lonely. He cannot go home to a community that would not recognize him, and he cannot fully belong to the human world that fears what he looks like. His friendship, once given, is absolute and unconditional, because he understands exactly how rare connection is.

Appearance

Massive super mutant standing over eight feet tall with mottled green-yellow skin and the heavy musculature typical of FEV mutation. Unlike most super mutants, his eyes carry visible intelligence — alert, curious, and oddly gentle for a being who could tear a car in half. Wears scavenged clothing adapted to his enormous frame. Often carries a Gatling laser with the casual ease of someone holding a walking stick. His face, though mutated, retains more expressiveness than most of his kind.
