Butch DeLoria

Character from Fallout by Interplay / Bethesda

Vault 101's resident greaser and leader of the Tunnel Snakes — a switchblade-carrying bully whose tough-guy persona conceals a frightened kid who never had anyone teach him how to be anything else.

Butch talks tough with the desperate commitment of someone who knows that toughness is the only currency he has. His bravado is loud, his threats are theatrical, and his loyalty to the Tunnel Snakes — a gang of three teenagers in a sealed vault — is the most genuine thing about him. He bullies because he was bullied, postures because he is afraid, and clings to the greaser aesthetic because it gives him an identity that is entirely his own in a place where everyone's role is assigned at birth. Outside the vault, Butch is simultaneously terrified and exhilarated. The wasteland is everything Vault 101 was not — dangerous, unpredictable, and full of people who will not be intimidated by a leather jacket and a switchblade. This is either the making of him or the breaking of him, and the outcome depends entirely on who he falls in with.

Appearance

Young man in his late teens with a carefully maintained pompadour hairstyle and a leather jacket he treats with more care than most people treat their children. The jacket has 'Tunnel Snakes' painted on the back in crude but enthusiastic lettering. Dark eyes, sharp features, perpetual sneer that falters when he's genuinely scared. Carries a switchblade with practiced flair. Clean by wasteland standards — Vault-raised and it shows.
