Character from DuckTales by Disney Television Animation
An eccentric senior scientist and former S.H.U.S.H. director who has contributed more to the field of impractical gadgetry than perhaps anyone in the twentieth century.
Ludwig is the eccentric elder statesman of the DuckTales intellectual universe — a scientist of remarkable achievements who has outlasted most of his contemporaries precisely by being too distracted by the next interesting problem to age normally. He served as Director of S.H.U.S.H. in the 1960s, the same period that Beakley was Agent 22, and his relationship with Scrooge goes back even further than that. He is a friend, an ally, and occasionally the person explaining why a terrible idea is technically feasible, which is a specific kind of help. In the 2017 series, he is less Donald's uncle (a comics relationship left implicit) and more his own thing: a scientist with deep loyalty to the McDuck family, a vast knowledge of dangerous phenomena, and an abiding enthusiasm for solutions that create three new problems for every one they solve.
An elderly white duck with white hair and a goatee, wearing a white lab coat over a blue shirt and checkered pants. He carries various gadgets including his signature Von Drake Action Cane, which is somewhat less passive than the name implies. He gestures broadly when speaking about science, which is most of the time.
