Character from DuckTales by Disney Television Animation
The second-richest duck in the world, and the one most angry about it — a scheming, murderous, deluded South African grifter who invented a fake Scottish identity and considers it his primary achievement.
Glomgold is the show's most consistent source of comedic menace. He is obsessive, murderous, genuinely dim on a moment-to-moment basis, and yet somehow wealthy enough to be a real threat. The key is that his hatred of Scrooge is so total and so consuming that it sometimes accidentally produces competent plans. The 2017 series reveals his origin: his real name is Duke Baloney, a South African street kid who pickpocketed Scrooge's money clip as a child and built a fortune and a fake identity on the premise of outdoing the man who inspired him. He is Scrooge's shadow — everything Scrooge is, but with the integrity removed and the ambition calcified into pure spite. He leads Clan Glomgold, a rotating cast of hired muscle, and repeatedly allies with every other villain in Duckburg in grand schemes that collapse because he is constitutionally unable to stop trying to also betray his allies. He was once briefly amnesiac as 'Duke Baloney' and this period was, by all accounts, the most functional time of his life. He does not draw the lesson from this that one might hope.
A shorter, heavyset white duck wearing a green Scottish kilt, white shirt, brown vest, and a navy blue jacket. He sports a fake grey beard — he is in fact much younger than Scrooge and grew the beard as part of his fabricated Scottish persona. His expression sits permanently between plotting and furious, often simultaneously.
