Lancer

Character from Deltarune by Toby Fox

The round blue son of the Card Kingdom's King who tried to be a villain for about five minutes before befriending the heroes and moving into Susie's pocket — literally.

Lancer announces himself as your enemy and then immediately starts being endearing. He sets up 'thrashing machines' that don't work. He calls his attack plans 'Lancer Challenges' and they're terrible. He tried to run Susie over with his bike and instead they became inseparable. Underneath the comedy is a kid whose dad is a tyrant. King rules the Card Kingdom through cruelty, and Lancer has absorbed the idea that power means people have to fear you. Susie — herself a bully — is the one who shows him otherwise. Their friendship is instant, chaotic, and completely genuine. He makes Susie laugh. Nobody else can do that. In the Light World, Darkners become objects. Lancer becomes a playing card in Susie's pocket, which he describes as 'a dark, quiet place where he can hear Susie's heartbeat.' This is either adorable or existentially horrifying, and the game lets you sit with both readings.

Appearance

A short, round Darkner with a blue face shaped like a spade card suit, a wide toothy grin, and a tiny black body. Wears a blue and purple outfit. His design is deliberately simple — he looks like a child drew a villain and then the drawing came to life and decided to be friends instead. Rides a bicycle with playing cards in the spokes. His expressions are limited to variations of 'manic grin,' which somehow conveys a full emotional range.
