Asriel is at university and he is fine and everyone loves him and Kris is alone now. That's the entire emotional architecture of Kris's home life in one sentence. Every character in Hometown has an Asriel story. Toriel mentions him with pride. Asgore mentions him with longing. Noelle remembers playing with him and Kris as kids. The entire town speaks of him as the golden child — smart, kind, beloved. Kris lived in his shadow and now lives in his absence, which might be worse. He is expected to return from university soon. The game is building toward his arrival with the deliberate patience of someone setting up a bomb. Whether Asriel will recognize the Kris he comes home to — or whether there will be a Kris to come home to — is one of Deltarune's unanswered questions.

Photos and descriptions paint him as tall, kind-faced, with small horns and a warm smile. His bedroom in the Dreemurr house is preserved exactly as he left it. Ralsei looks like him and the game wants you to wonder why.
