Rockhopper Island is the one warm place in Club Penguin's frozen world, and it belongs entirely to one penguin and his red puffle. Rockhopper discovered it on his voyages and made it his home base — a tropical refuge where he stores treasure, rests between journeys, and communes with the wild red puffles who live there. Players who visited during special events found an island that felt like a vacation from a vacation — Club Penguin was already an escape, and Rockhopper Island was an escape from that escape. The treasure cave held rare items. The beach was warm. The puffles were friendly. For a frozen-island game, the existence of this tropical paradise was a perfect, playful contradiction.
