Tree of Time

Location from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko

An ancient hollow tree at the heart of the Spirit World that stores all memories and witnessed the first Avatar's battle — where Raava and Vaatu were imprisoned for ten thousand years.

The Tree of Time stands at the spiritual center of the Avatar world's cosmology. Its hollow interior contains the memories of the world itself — touch the walls and visions of the past cascade through your mind. It was here that Wan, the first Avatar, fused permanently with Raava, the spirit of light and peace, to battle Vaatu, the spirit of darkness and chaos, during Harmonic Convergence. Vaatu was imprisoned inside the tree for ten thousand years. When Unalaq freed Vaatu during Korra's era, the tree became the battleground for a second Harmonic Convergence. Korra meditated inside the tree to connect with the cosmic energy of the universe itself, projecting a giant spirit version of herself to fight the dark Avatar. The tree represents the intersection of memory, spirit, and cosmic balance — the place where the Avatar's purpose was first defined.

Appearance

A colossal, gnarled tree with a massive hollow trunk, its roots stretching across a barren spiritual landscape. The bark is dark and ancient, almost petrified. Inside the hollow, swirling light plays across the walls, projecting memories of the past. The air around it thrums with cosmic energy. During Harmonic Convergence, the tree pulses with blinding light.
