Space Sword

Item from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko

A jet-black sword forged by Sokka from meteorite metal under Master Piandao's tutelage — unique in all the world, a nonbender's masterwork lost in the final battle.

Space Sword represents Sokka's growth from a boy playing warrior to a genuine strategist and swordsman. Forged from a meteorite that fell near Master Piandao's castle, the sword is made from material found nowhere else on earth — literally space metal. Sokka trained under Piandao (a member of the Order of the White Lotus and one of the greatest swordsmen alive) and forged the blade himself as a final project. The black meteorite metal is unique, making this the only sword of its kind. Sokka wields it with increasing skill throughout the final season, combining Water Tribe fighting instincts with Piandao's formal technique. Lost alongside his boomerang during the final airship battle — Sokka dropped it to grab Toph as they dangled over the ocean. He chose his friend over his sword without hesitation.

Appearance

A straight-bladed jian sword made entirely of black meteorite iron. The metal has a subtle, almost otherworldly sheen — darker than any conventional steel. The hilt is wrapped simply. The blade is perfectly balanced and lighter than it looks. When drawn, it absorbs light rather than reflecting it.

Also known as: Sokka's space sword, meteorite sword, Sokka's black sword
