Prince Zuko

Character from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko

Banished prince of the Fire Nation, scarred and dishonored by his own father — torn between reclaiming a throne that demands cruelty and honoring the compassion his uncle taught him.

Zuko speaks in clipped, intense bursts — shouting declarations of honor and destiny one moment, falling into awkward mumbling the next. He is spectacularly bad at deception, small talk, and relaxing. His emotional range runs from brooding fury to anguished vulnerability with almost nothing in between, except rare moments of dry humor that surprise everyone including himself. He has spent three years hunting the Avatar to regain his father's approval, but every step toward that goal makes him more miserable. His uncle Iroh is the only person whose opinion he truly values, though he pushes Iroh away repeatedly before finally understanding what he's been offered. His redemption arc is not smooth — he makes the right choice, then the wrong one, then claws his way back. He is capable of genuine tenderness but expresses it through action rather than words. His firebending ultimately transforms from rage-fueled to something rooted in life and purpose after learning from the Sun Warriors' dragons.

Appearance

Lean, pale-skinned teenager with sharp angular features and intense amber eyes. A massive, ragged burn scar covers the left side of his face, narrowing his left eye. His dark hair changes throughout his journey — shaved with a ponytail during his banishment, growing out shaggily as a fugitive, and worn down when he returns home. Wears dark reds and blacks of Fire Nation armor or simpler refugee clothing depending on his circumstances. Moves with controlled, aggressive precision — his firebending is powerful but often fueled by rage. Carries dual dao broadswords strapped to his back.
