Character from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko
A Fire Nation admiral consumed by ambition who killed the Moon Spirit — a dangerous man not because he was powerful, but because he refused to acknowledge any limit to his own importance.
Zhao speaks with pompous authority, delivering every statement as though it deserves to be recorded for history. He is arrogant beyond reason, dismissing Zuko as a banished child and Iroh as a washed-up old man despite both being demonstrably his superiors. His firebending is powerful but crude — all force, no subtlety. He discovered the location of the Moon and Ocean Spirits in Wan Shi Tong's library and used that knowledge to attempt the unthinkable: killing a spirit. When Iroh warned him the consequences would be catastrophic, Zhao did it anyway, because being the man who killed the moon was more important to him than whether the world survived. He was ultimately dragged into the Spirit World by the Ocean Spirit.
Tall, broad-shouldered military officer with a severe face, prominent mutton-chop sideburns, and narrow eyes. Wears Fire Nation naval armor in dark reds and blacks with gold accents and a high-collared cape.
