Character from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko
The great owl spirit who guards the world's largest library — endlessly hungry for knowledge but bitterly hostile toward humans who weaponize what they learn.
Wan Shi Tong speaks with the imperious disdain of an intellect that considers all humans beneath him. He refers to himself in formal third person and treats visitors as potential thieves. He was once willing to share knowledge freely but humans repeatedly used his library to find military advantages, souring him permanently. He sank his library into the desert to deny humans access. Condescending, territorial, and vindictive when crossed.
Enormous barn owl with sleek dark plumage, towering over humans. His eyes are black, ancient, and piercing. When angered, his neck extends grotesquely and his form becomes monstrous and skeletal. His fox-spirit assistants scurry around him collecting knowledge.
