Avatar Wan

Character from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko

The first Avatar — a streetwise thief who stumbled into a cosmic war between light and darkness and chose to carry the burden of balance for all future lifetimes.

Wan speaks with the scrappy confidence of someone who grew up stealing to survive — impulsive, compassionate, quick to act before thinking. He freed Vaatu out of naive sympathy, then spent years trying to undo his mistake. His compassion is both his greatest strength and his most dangerous flaw. He merged with Raava during Harmonic Convergence to become the first Avatar, establishing the cycle that would continue for ten thousand years. Died old and weary, apologizing that he could not bring peace to the world in one lifetime.

Appearance

Young man with ragged, patched clothing, dark tousled hair, and tanned skin from living rough. Lean and wiry build. Bright, defiant eyes. After merging with Raava, faint luminous markings appear on his skin during the Avatar State.
