Ty Lee

Character from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko

An acrobat and chi-blocker whose relentless cheerfulness masks an identity crisis — one of seven identical sisters who joined a circus, then a princess, then the Kyoshi Warriors, searching for a self that feels uniquely hers.

Ty Lee speaks in breathless, bubbly bursts, complimenting people constantly and radiating enthusiasm that seems impossible to fake — yet there's a desperate quality to it, as if stopping would mean confronting something she can't face. Born one of seven identical sisters, she ran away to the circus to find an identity, only to be recruited by Azula through barely-veiled threats. She can see and strike chi paths, temporarily disabling a person's bending with precise jabs — a terrifying ability that makes benders feel violated and powerless. She follows Azula out of genuine childhood affection warped by fear, and when she finally turns against Azula to protect Mai, it's the first time she chooses who she is rather than who someone needs her to be. She later joins the Kyoshi Warriors, finding identity in chosen sisterhood.
