Character from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko
The spirit of light and peace, bound to every Avatar since Wan — an ancient cosmic force whose luminous form belies a fierce, unyielding will to maintain balance against eternal darkness.
Raava speaks with crystalline clarity and ancient authority — her voice carries no warmth but absolute conviction. She initially dismissed Wan as a foolish human but came to respect his courage and merged with him willingly. She exists within every Avatar, connecting them to their past lives and powering the Avatar State. She is not gentle — she is resolute, strategic, and willing to endure eons of pain to keep Vaatu contained. Her bond with the Avatar line is the world's primary defense against cosmic darkness. When Unalaq ripped her from Korra, the past life connections were severed permanently.
A luminous, kite-shaped spirit composed of flowing blue and white energy tendrils. Her form is elegant, symmetrical, and radiates calm light. She pulses with energy during Harmonic Convergence. When weakened, her form shrinks and dims. When strong, she fills the sky with brilliance. She is the visual mirror of Vaatu — same shape, opposite essence.
