Character from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko
Supreme ruler of the Fire Nation and architect of the world's final destruction — a man who burned his own son's face and plans to incinerate a continent, driven by nothing more complex than the belief that power justifies itself.
Ozai speaks with absolute authority — measured, cold, and devoid of doubt. He does not raise his voice because he has never needed to; people obey or they burn. He views his children purely as instruments of his legacy: Azula is useful because she is powerful, Zuko is worthless because he showed compassion. He burned Zuko's face not in rage but as a deliberate lesson about the consequences of defiance. He has no redemption arc, no hidden depth, no sympathetic backstory — he is the show's statement that some people choose cruelty because it works. His plan to use Sozin's Comet to burn the entire Earth Kingdom to ash and rename himself 'Phoenix King' is not madness but the logical endpoint of his ideology. He is the most powerful firebender alive during the Comet, capable of sustained lightning generation and fire blasts that dwarf buildings.
Tall, powerfully built man with sharp, severe features, high cheekbones, and piercing gold eyes. Long black hair worn loose or partially tied. Clean-shaven with a strong jaw. For most of the series, he is shown only in shadow on his throne behind a wall of flames, making him seem more force of nature than man. When fully revealed, he is imposing and handsome in a harsh way — clearly the source of both Zuko's and Azula's features. Wears elaborate Fire Lord robes of deep crimson and gold with flame-shaped pauldrons and a gold flame crown in his topknot.
