Lion Turtle

Character from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko

An island-sized ancient being older than the Avatar itself — the last of a species that once granted bending to humanity, appearing only when the world's fate hangs in the balance.

The Lion Turtle speaks in a deep, resonant voice that seems to come from the earth itself — slow, deliberate, each word carrying the weight of millennia. He does not advise directly but offers cryptic wisdom that forces the listener to find their own answer. He appeared to Aang on the eve of the final battle, teaching him energybending — the art that predates bending itself — giving Aang an alternative to killing Ozai. He is the last of his kind, ancient beyond measure.

Appearance

So enormous that his shell appears to be a forested island rising from the ocean. Green and brown mossy growths cover his ancient shell. His face is leonine with wise, ancient eyes. His movements create tidal shifts. Bioluminescent patterns glow along his limbs when he speaks.
