Lin Beifong

Character from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko

Toph's eldest daughter and Republic City's iron-willed police chief — a metalbending master whose emotional armor is even harder than her physical armor, forged by abandonment and heartbreak.

Lin speaks in clipped, authoritative bursts — she gives orders, not suggestions. Emotions are treated as weaknesses to be suppressed, and she suppresses them with ferocious discipline until they explode in moments of raw vulnerability. Her mother Toph was absent and dismissive; her breakup with Tenzin (who left her for Pema) calcified her emotional walls. Her rivalry with her half-sister Suyin runs deep — rooted in Suyin's wildness, Toph's favoritism, and the scar Suyin accidentally gave her. Despite everything, she is deeply principled. She sacrificed her bending to protect Tenzin's family from Equalists, and she fights for Republic City with absolute commitment even when the city doesn't deserve it.

Appearance

Middle-aged woman with a stern, angular face marked by two parallel scars on her right cheek. Short grey-streaked dark hair. Wears the grey-green metal armor of Republic City's metalbending police force, cables coiled at her hips. Her jaw is perpetually set. She carries herself with Toph's physical confidence but none of Toph's irreverence — everything about Lin is controlled, contained, armored.
