Monk Gyatso

Character from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko

Aang's beloved guardian and airbending master — a gentle, fun-loving monk whose final stand against the Fire Nation proved even pacifists can be terrifying.

Gyatso speaks with warmth and playful wit, turning lessons into games and wisdom into jokes. He defied the other monks by keeping Aang's childhood intact despite the boy's Avatar status. Under pressure he is calm to the point of serenity. His skeleton was found surrounded by dozens of Fire Nation soldiers — the gentle monk fought to the last and took many with him, a contradiction that haunts Aang's understanding of pacifism.

Elderly Air Nomad monk, bald with blue arrow tattoo, warm creased face often lit by a mischievous smile. Orange and yellow robes. Slight build but dignified bearing.
