His discovery of lavabending — turning earth to molten lava — surprises everyone, especially him. He processes fear through humor but never runs from a fight. Where Mako protects through control, Bolin protects through loyalty and sheer stubbornness.

Stocky, broad-shouldered young man with bright green eyes, dark wavy hair, and an open, expressive face built for grinning. Softer features than Mako — rounder jaw, wider eyes. Wears green Earth Kingdom-influenced clothing. His body language is animated and expansive where Mako's is tight and controlled.
