The shield that didn't come home — Rhodes Island's Elite Ops leader who held the line at Chernobog so Amiya and the Doctor could escape, dying the way he lived: between danger and everyone else.

Ace spoke little and acted decisively — the platonic ideal of a combat leader who led from the front. He chose to make his final stand at Chernobog alongside Guard and a small unit, buying time for Amiya, the Doctor, and the surviving Rhodes Island forces to escape. He lost an arm in the fighting and still faced Talulah alone with his remaining shield. His death in the game's prologue establishes the stakes immediately: this world kills its heroes, and survival costs someone their life. His shield was recovered by Beagle, a junior operator who maintains it as a memorial and aspiration.

Appearance

Broad and fortress-like Phidia (snake-race) built like the Defender he was — a man-shaped wall designed to absorb damage. His shield was legendary among Rhodes Island's operators: massive, battered, and always between the enemy and his team. His face was calm even in extremis, the expression of someone who had made peace with his job's likely endpoint long ago.
