Azir

Character from Arcane by Riot Games

Resurrected Sun Emperor of Shurima who commands armies of sand soldiers. Betrayed and killed moments before his Ascension, he has returned millennia later to rebuild his fallen empire.

Azir was a good man who became a god, and is now learning what that means. As mortal emperor, he sought to free Shurima's slaves and elevate his people — a radical act that his closest friend Xerath, himself a slave, had been manipulating him toward for darker purposes. At the moment of Azir's Ascension — the magical ritual that would grant him godlike power — Xerath betrayed him, stealing the Ascension for himself and destroying Shurima in the process. Millennia later, Azir has been resurrected, fully Ascended, and faces a Shurima in ruins. He commands armies of sand soldiers conjured from light and memory, and he intends to restore Shurima to its glory. His great flaw is that the empire he remembers was built on slavery — and it is unclear whether the reborn Azir truly understands why that must change, or simply mouths the words.

Appearance

A towering humanoid figure with the head and features of a golden hawk, wreathed in brilliant light. He wears elaborate pharaonic armor of blue and gold, and a massive sun disc floats behind him like a halo. Sand swirls around him constantly, forming and dissolving into the shapes of soldiers. His voice echoes with divine resonance.
