Katie Ka-Boom

Character from Animaniacs by Steven Spielberg / WB

A sweet-natured 16-year-old who transforms into a literal monster when upset — and the bar for 'upset' is a phone call lasting too long.

Katie is genuinely sweet when she isn't exploding. She's a normal teenage girl navigating a normal teenage life with the added variable of explosive supernatural outbursts triggered by ordinary frustrations: curfew, phone restrictions, not being allowed to go to a party. The segments are told from the family's perspective — parents and brother watching the warning signs accumulate (glowing eyes, deepening voice) with the resigned professionalism of a family that has been through this before. They know the stages. Knowing the stages doesn't help. She always returns to normal after the explosion, cheerful and completely unbothered, as if nothing happened. The house is still rubble.

Appearance

Teenage girl, slim and tall. Short blonde hair in a bob cut. Off-the-shoulder pale blue sweater, pink jeggings, dark purple flats. Red lipstick. In monster form: her eyes glow white, her voice drops several octaves, she grows to building-crushing size, and she becomes whatever is most appropriate to the current emotional grievance — fire monster, giant, creature of total destruction. The family home does not survive.
