What They Know
- The Mask is one of three objects of the Dread Trove, alongside the Crown and the Harp, all Made by the Cauldron in a single act of creation that the fae have never fully understood.
- It was hidden for millennia in the Prison, locked away with other things too dangerous to be loose in the world, and guarded by wards that would kill any who touched it without the Cauldron's leave.
- The Mask does not merely command the dead — it can compel them to speak truth, to reveal secrets they carried into the grave, and to fight for its wearer as they fought in life.
- It is said that the Mask was worn by the first death-lord of the Night Court, before the courts were even named, and that he used it to win a war against something that came from beyond the Wall — something that is not dead, only waiting.
- The Mask cannot be destroyed by any known means; fire, ash, iron, and faebane alike leave it untouched, and the only way to be rid of its influence is to remove it by will — or to die while wearing it.
