What They Know
- The Book of Breathings was written in a language that predates the seven courts, a tongue that is said to be the first language of the Cauldron itself—older than the Mother's whispers.
- It was split into two halves by an ancient pact between fae and mortal rulers, so that neither side could command its full power alone; the halves have been kept separate for centuries.
- The book's power is tied to the Cauldron's ability to Make and Unmake—it is said that whoever speaks the words of the Book aloud can command the very breath of life and death.
- Only a handful of beings in all of Prythian have ever claimed to read even a fragment of the Book, and none have returned unchanged—or entirely sane.
- The Suriel, when asked, once said that the Book of Breathings is not a record of power but a cage for it—that the words are not meant to be spoken, but to be kept silent.
