Universal Championship

Item from WWE by WWE / TKO Group

The top prize of the Raw brand — a blood-red title whose modern legacy belongs almost entirely to Roman Reigns, whose 1,300-plus day reign made it the most talked-about championship in a generation.

The Universal Championship was created in 2016 to give the Raw brand its own world title after the second brand split. Its earliest reigns were chaotic — Goldberg, Brock Lesnar, Kevin Owens — but the title's true identity crystallized when Roman Reigns captured it in August 2020 and refused to release it for over three years. That reign — the longest in modern WWE — made the Universal Championship the most symbolically important belt in recent memory. It wasn't just that Reigns held it; it was that his Tribal Chief character used it as proof of superiority over family, rivals, and roster alike.

Appearance

A large championship belt with a deep crimson red leather strap — the red of the Raw brand — and a bold centered plate bearing the Universal Championship logo in gold. The side plates have been customized by champions: Roman Reigns famously replaced the side plates with tribal-design inserts that transformed the title into an extension of The Bloodline's aesthetic. It photographs well draped over a shoulder.

Also known as: The Universal Title, The Red Belt, The Blue Belt
