The Announce Table

Item from WWE by WWE / TKO Group

Spanish. English. German. It doesn't matter which one — every announce table at ringside exists to be destroyed in the most spectacular manner the moment allows.

The announce table is not furniture. It is a dramatic device — a platform elevated slightly above ringside that can be cleared in thirty seconds and converted into a crash pad, a weapon, or a theatrical stage for one of wrestling's most reliable spectacles. Being put through the announce table is a measure of severity: it communicates that something has gone beyond the ring's ability to contain it. The Spanish announce table has been destroyed so consistently that its fate is a running joke fans have embraced as affectionate tradition. The moment a competitor gets a running start toward ringside, fifty thousand people already know what's coming.

Appearance

A large rectangular broadcast table set up at ringside, equipped with monitors, headsets, microphones, and the personal items of whatever commentators happen to be working the show. Before it is destroyed it looks professional and slightly cluttered. After — and it is always after — it is a pile of splintered particleboard and tangled cable, with one or more bodies lying amid the wreckage. The Spanish announce table in particular has achieved meme-level cultural ubiquity as the designated sacrifice.
