Yokozuna

Character from WWE by WWE / TKO Group

The sumo warrior from the Land of the Rising Sun — an immovable mountain of a champion who defeated Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart to reign as WWE Champion at the peak of the Golden Era.

Yokozuna was an exercise in unstoppable force. He was presented as a political villain — the foreign menace used to torment American heroes — but the character transcended cheap heat because his physical presence made every threat credible. He defeated Hulk Hogan for the title at WrestleMania IX in under a minute, one of the biggest upsets of the era. He then feuded with Bret Hart, Lex Luger, and The Undertaker, with Mr. Fuji scheming at ringside and providing the salt that Yokozuna threw in opponents' eyes. He was a monster champion in the purest sense: no speeches, no interviews, just devastation.

Appearance

Massive — over 500 pounds of enforced immobility, arriving in sumo mawashi ceremonial gear, flanked by his conniving manager Mr. Fuji with his Japanese flag. His entrance was deliberate pageantry: ring attendants clearing the path, the crowd silent in the face of something too big to make sense of. The Banzai Drop — sitting down on a prone opponent from the second rope — looked utterly unsurvivable.
