Location from The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski
Temeria's walled capital built on a lake district — once seat of King Foltest's court, now occupied by Nilfgaardian forces.
Vizima was built to be defended, and now it defends against its own people's despair. Three rings of walls divide the city into the Trade Quarter, Temple Quarter, and the old castle district, each layer older and more fortified than the last. The lake that once made the city beautiful now makes it a prison — foggy mornings carry the smell of stagnant water and fish guts through streets where Temerian flags have been torn down and Nilfgaardian standards raised. Soldiers patrol in pairs. Curfews empty the streets after dark. Temerian citizens go about their business under watchful occupation, trading in the markets and attending the temples with the careful blankness of people who have learned that expression is dangerous. The city functions. It does not thrive. It waits, and in the waiting, something like resistance takes root in the silence between conversations.
A fortified city rising from islands and causeways in a broad lake. Concentric stone walls separate districts. Nilfgaardian black-and-gold has replaced Temerian silver lilies.
