Thanedd Island

Location from The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski

A rocky island housing Aretuza academy — site of the infamous mage coup where the Brotherhood of Sorcerers shattered.

Thanedd is a scar in the Continent's political landscape, a wound that never healed because too many factions benefit from keeping it open. The Brotherhood of Sorcerers met here on the island's towers until the night of the coup, when Nilfgaardian sympathizers among the mages clashed with Northern loyalists and the halls that had hosted centuries of magical governance became killing floors. The tower of Tor Lara, once a beacon of arcane cooperation, became a wild portal that scattered participants across the world — some survived, some didn't, and some ended up in places they're still trying to escape. The smell of scorched stone and residual magical discharge lingered for years afterward. The Brotherhood never recovered, fracturing into the Lodge of Sorceresses and a dozen smaller factions, each blaming the others for a catastrophe they all helped build.

Appearance
