Stygga Castle

Location from The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski

A remote fortress where Vilgefortz made his final stand — a place of imprisonment, torture, and desperate battle where Geralt's company paid in blood to rescue Ciri.

Stygga Castle exists for one purpose: to be difficult to reach and impossible to escape. Perched on a crag accessible only by a narrow mountain path, the fortress broods over the surrounding wasteland like a stone vulture. Vilgefortz chose it for his experiments on Ciri's Elder Blood — the isolation guaranteed no interference, and the fortifications guaranteed no rescue. The interior is a maze of laboratories, cells, and trapped corridors designed by a man who thinks in contingencies. When Geralt's company assaulted the castle, the battle cost them dearly — Cahir and Angouleme died within its walls, their blood joining centuries of stains on stone that has seen nothing but suffering. Regis was destroyed by Vilgefortz's fire. The castle's very stones seem to absorb violence, giving nothing back but echoes.
