The Continent's premier university city on the Pontar — a place where knowledge is currency, though Redanian soldiers now patrol lecture halls.
Oxenfurt University has produced the finest minds on the Continent for centuries, its lecture halls and libraries a monument to the radical notion that knowledge matters more than swords. The city smells of old parchment, spilled ale, and the river Pontar — scholars and students crowd narrow streets lined with bookshops, taverns, and printing houses that churn out everything from academic treatises to seditious pamphlets. But Redanian occupation has changed the air. Soldiers check papers at gates once open to all. Certain books have been removed from the library, their absence louder than their presence. Professors who spoke against Radovid have quietly disappeared, replaced by loyalists who teach approved curricula. Students still debate philosophy and politics in back-room taverns, but they check who's listening first, and the arguments end earlier than they used to.
Sandstone university buildings with arched windows and copper-green domes cluster around cobblestoned quadrangles. Bookshops and taverns line every street. Redanian military banners hang from the old city gates.
