Xenovox

Item from The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski

A paired set of magical communication crystals used by sorceresses — transmitting voice across any distance, invaluable for coordination and conspiracy.

Each pair of xenovox crystals is attuned to its partner — activating one causes the other to resonate, transmitting voice regardless of distance, across mountains, oceans, and even between dimensions. They cannot be intercepted by conventional magical eavesdropping, making them ideal for the Lodge of Sorceresses' clandestine communications. The crystals are rare, difficult to create, and impossible to replicate without the original crafter's knowledge. Yennefer and Triss have used paired sets to coordinate across the Continent when portals were too conspicuous. The sound quality is eerie — voices emerge slightly distorted, carrying an echo that doesn't belong to any physical space, as if the words pass through somewhere else on their way between the paired crystals.

Appearance

Two palm-sized crystals of deep violet, faceted and set in silver filigree housings. When active, they pulse with a faint inner light synchronized between the pair.

Also known as: Xenovox, communication crystals
