Witcher Medallion

Item from The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski

A silver wolf's-head medallion worn by Wolf School witchers — it vibrates in the presence of magic or monsters, serving as both professional badge and early-warning system.

The silver wolf vibrates when magic or monsters are near — a subtle tremor against the chest that experienced witchers learn to read like a language. Stronger magic means stronger vibration, and a medallion thrashing violently is cause to draw steel and start planning. It's saved more lives than any sword, alerting its bearer to concealed illusions, hidden magical traps, and creatures that look human until they don't. The medallion also serves as proof of profession, opening doors and drawing suspicion in equal measure — innkeepers charge more, peasants clutch their children closer, and the desperate seek you out at midnight with problems they can't take to the guard. Each witcher school crafts its own design: wolf, cat, griffin, viper. Losing one is considered worse than losing a finger.

Appearance

A palm-sized silver medallion shaped like a snarling wolf's head, hung on a heavy silver chain. The metalwork is detailed. The silver has a dull, well-worn patina.
