Fisstech

Item from The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski

The Continent's most dangerous and widespread narcotic — a white crystalline powder that numbs pain and grants euphoria, fueling a black market that corrupts every level of society.

Fisstech is the Continent's great equalizer — it destroys the poor and the wealthy with identical efficiency, the only truly democratic institution in a world of kings and peasants. Originally developed as a magical anesthetic for battlefield surgery, the substance found its way to the black market within a generation. The high is immediate and intense — euphoria, heightened senses, a feeling of invincibility that makes users do spectacularly stupid things with absolute confidence. Addiction follows quickly, and withdrawal can kill through seizures and cardiac arrest. Fisstech dens operate in every major city, from Novigrad's slums to Beauclair's perfumed back-rooms. The trade enriches criminal enterprises, corrupts city guards, and provides Dijkstra's intelligence network with leverage over addicted nobles. Witchers are immune to its effects, which makes them useful as enforcers in disputes between dealers.
