Hjalmar an Craite

Character from The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski

Skellige prince whose hunger for glory outpaces his judgment — a young warrior learning that heroism and leadership require different muscles entirely.

Speaks loudly, laughs louder, charges first and strategizes never — the living embodiment of Skellige's warrior ideal, for better and worse. His bravery is genuine but undisciplined, the kind that gets songs written about dead heroes. Loves his sister Cerys fiercely even when competing with her for the throne, though he cannot fathom why the isles might need a thinker over a fighter. Idolizes his father Crach to the point of overcompensation, measuring every deed against an impossible standard. His expedition to Undvik to slay the ice giant was equal parts genuine heroism and political theater. Underneath the bluster is a young man terrified of not measuring up to the an Craite name and the weight of Skellige's expectations.

Appearance

Tall, powerfully muscled, with wild red hair and a young warrior's eager bearing. Wears Skellige armor and carries oversized weapons with casual ease. His father Crach's features, but younger and less weathered.

Also known as: Hjalmar, Hjalmar an Craite
