The Undercity

Location from When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker

The tunnels beneath Gore where children fight in cages and information is the only currency that matters more than blood.

The Undercity is Gore stripped of pretense. Here, power is measured in information, violence, and the willingness to use both. Tarik Relaken's battle pits forced null children — those born without elemental songs — to fight for the entertainment of those born with power. It is a microcosm of everything wrong with Ayrithia's social order: magic determines value, and those without it are expendable. Raeve knows these tunnels intimately. Every escape route, every hidden alcove, every fighting den where she once bled as Fire Lark under the Scavenger King's ownership. The Undercity made her what she is — not the Fiur du Ath, not Sereme's training, but the years of cage fighting that taught her body to move faster than thought and her heart to stop feeling.

Appearance

A network of tunnels, converted caverns, and underground chambers beneath Gore's streets. Lit by torches and alchemical lamps that cast everything in amber and shadow. The ceilings drip. The walls are scarred with graffiti and old blade marks. Fighting dens are circular pits surrounded by tiered seating carved from rock. Market stalls crowd the wider caverns, selling things that can't be sold in daylight.
