The Fade

Location from When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker

The twilight kingdom pinched between fire and darkness — where Moltenmaw dragons flash every color and the king commits to nothing.

The Fade feels like the hour between sunset and darkness stretched into a kingdom. The light is always uncertain, always shifting, always suggesting rather than revealing. It is the most physically comfortable of the three kingdoms — neither scorching nor freezing — but this comfort comes with its own unease. Nothing here is definitive. The Moltenmaw dragons reflect their homeland: adaptable, versatile, capable of surviving anywhere. They are the easiest to charm and the most varied in appearance, each one a unique explosion of feather and beak and color. The kingdom itself mirrors this adaptability — its culture borrows from both The Burn's directness and The Shade's subtlety without fully committing to either. Under Cadok, The Fade is a buffer state, a neutral zone, and a place where refugees from both extremes can find shelter.

Appearance

A perpetual twilight zone where the sky never fully brightens and never fully darkens. The light has a purple-amber quality that shifts with the hours but never resolves into day or night. The landscape transitions gradually from The Burn's heat to The Shade's cold, creating a temperate band of forests, rolling hills, and mist-filled valleys. Moltenmaw dragons wheel overhead in bursts of impossible color — no two share the same plumage.
